recent research has shown that despite all these effortsmade by the government to educate the young people the number of primary and secondary school drop out in the county is increasing. Majority of those who remain in schools are faced with low self-esteem and self-drive, no motivation leading to poor academic performance.
Form four leavers stay in villages with no clear plan on what to do next to better their future.
The youth make up to 60% of the county's population and its worrying that majority are jobless(unemployed) and due to lack of hope for the future they find themselves in drug abuse and other unproductive activities
like drug abuse, crime, early marriages.
To make sure the number of primary and secondary drop outs has reduced,excellence in academic performance and a reduction in the number of unemployed young people in the county, YOUNG MENTORS KENYA is committed to educate, inspire and empower the young people in kirinyaga county for an admirable and productive future. We have a passion of helping the young people so that they can become ambitious and goal driven. We believe that we can change the old ideas and practices of the young people so that they can direct their energy toward good and productive activities.

We pair the young people (mentees) with mentors and their relationship strengthened through a series of planned activities between the two to increase confidence, trust and self- drive.
The types of mentoring we use include:
1. Group mentoring – where one mentor mentors a group of young people
2. Team mentoring – where several mentors mentor a group of young people.3. Peer mentoring – where caring and experienced young people mentor other young people
4. E-mentoring – through social media and mobile phones (technology has made communication easier and this has made E-mentoring more effective)
